To anyone considering a martial art to enhance your martial skill / knowledge as well as improve all aspects of your life: Ving Tsun / Wing Chun is a martial art that allows the student to study the qualities of martial skills in a civilized environment conducive to allowing each individual to experience success and growth on this journey of personal freedom. The curriculum is designed to allow a comprehensive understanding of the theories, principles, supporting ideas, attributes and idioms that guide you to your own Kung Fu. On this journey the student requires a Sifu (teacher) that guides with caring, passion and patience while maintaining a relationship that will sustain you on your journey....such a Sifu is Colin Young ,who I have had the good fortune to share on my journey to discovering the treasure we call Ving Tsun. I am very proud to have Colin spread the Kung Fu to North Bay since I myself am a native of northern Ontario namely Kearns near Kirkland Lake. Well done Colin and I support without reservation the North Bay Ving Tsun kwoon. All the best to you and your students ...hope to meet you all in the near future.
Sifu Walter Jakimczuk MEd, BEd,BPHE. (Disciple of Grandmaster Sunny Tang) The art of Ving Tsun is a beautiful, genius and simple package and although it is a combat system, the benefits gained are so much more. The principles and foundations begin in the classroom but will stay with you wherever you go. Learn to flow through life's problems with precision, directness, perseverance and simplicity, all the meanwhile learning a viable method of self defense. The North Bay Ving Tsun club has now become a family to me whose members are eager to learn from one another, help each other hone their kung fu, and lend support in any way possible. The understanding and teachings of Sifu Colin Young is what first attracted me to Ving Tsun. His continuing paternal mentorship and the relationships I have developed with my kung fu brothers and sisters is why I can never leave. I truly encourage all to try this life changing art and join the world wide Ving Tsun family.

One of the things that first struck me about Ving Tsun is the relaxed nature of the art. It's about position, not power, it's about movement, not muscle. Now that I have severe joint issues I've returned to Ving Tsun as other systems are far too rough and harsh on the body. The value of any system is highly dependant upon the environment in which you study. North Bay Ving Tsun is part of a lineage which envisions us all as brothers and sisters studying together. We're not competing with one another, we're not fighting with one another, our goal is to work together in order that we may all improve. This open, friendly attitude is exemplified in the club's Sifu, who is warm, welcoming, and full of valuable information and experience. He teaches for the love of the art, out of a desire to share and pass on his knowledge. After decades of working with various martial arts I have seen many different teachers and teaching styles, but very few that I respect as much as Sifu Young.
If you've ever been interested in Wing Chun / Ving Tsun, or are looking for a different martial arts experience, consider visiting a class or two. Greg Wotton The first time I walked into the North Bay Ving Tsun club, I was the only woman in the building, surrounded by about eight men I'd never met; I pushed past the primal urge to turn around and leave as fast as possible and am glad I did, because the family vibe in that group is really special. So thanks for being so cool, guys. Stephanie Van Doleweerd Training in Ving Tsun is like our lives... You work, you get something of value, you persevere, you learn to be patient...you make a mistake, you learn to laugh at yourself, you don't understand, you get frustated, you make a tiny breakthrough, you celebrate !!! Michael O'Neill I would like to share with you my North Bay Ving Tsun journey. It began three and a half years ago, when I was looking for something to do in North Bay, for a modest price. I’ve searched the internet for “Martial Arts” because I used to do Karate and Kickboxing in the past. Suddenly, this title popped up on my screen: “North Bay Ving Tsun”. After doing some research, I was excited to learn that this Martial Art was actually invented by a woman! Yay! I am a woman and I can try this! So I did… and I was hooked! -- WHY? -- Well, first, our Sifu, Colin Young, is a VERY welcoming, honest, patient, kind, knowledgeable person, with a sense of humour and a passion for Ving Tsun, who gives of HIS own TIME to teach us and to offer us all possible opportunity to learn. Secondly, ALL of the Kung Fu Brothers and Sisters are friendly, encouraging, and fun to be around! Finally, the art itself is VERY practical and engages the body as well as the brain! After being with the North Bay Ving Tsun for a while, I’ve learned to overcome fears with the support of my Kung Fu peers. As I am a shy person by nature, I’ve always had a hard time being in front of people. But, because of the care of our North Bay Kung Fu family I managed to perform some of the Ving Tsun Forms in front of REAL Judges— and do OK!! So, let me give you my personal tip: Ving Tsun challenges YOU on a personal level: it challenges your patience and your perseverance; it challenges your body and your mind. However, it allows you to evolve through your fellowship with others. Therefore, to YOU, who thinks about JOINING, I say : “ Try it NOW!” To my Kung Fu Sisters and Brothers- I thank you ALL for helping me grow! To my Sifu- I am honoured to be part of North Bay Ving Tsun Family! Basia Milczarek |
